The Assay Genie rat Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC) immunoassay enables quantitative measurement of ACC in rat-derived serum or plasma-type samples, as well as tissue homogenate preparations, supporting research into hepatic and adipose lipid metabolism. Acetyl-CoA carboxylase catalyzes the ATP-dependent carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA, the committed and rate-controlling step in de novo fatty acid synthesis; malonyl-CoA also regulates mitochondrial fatty acid uptake through CPT1 inhibition, so quantifying ACC abundance provides a window onto lipogenesis, fatty acid oxidation balance, and downstream metabolic phenotypes studied in obesity, insulin resistance, hepatic steatosis, and cardiovascular rodent models.

Each kit provides reagents sufficient for 96 assays in a microplate strip-well format, with an absorbance-based readout compatible with standard laboratory plate readers. The assay reacts specifically with rat ACC, supporting dietary, pharmacologic, and genetic intervention studies where ACC dynamics are tracked across tissues and circulation. Mammalian ACC exists as two isoforms, the cytosolic ACC1 (ACACA) product that feeds malonyl-CoA into fatty acid biosynthesis and the mitochondrial-associated ACC2 (ACACB) form that gates beta-oxidation via CPT1, both of which are subject to AMPK-mediated phosphorylation.

Applications include metabolism research, drug screening for ACC inhibitors, studies of AMPK and insulin signaling effects on lipogenic flux, and characterization of high-fat diet or genetic rodent models of metabolic disease. Supplied as a complete kit with strip-well plate, detection antibody, standards, and ready-to-use reagents; intended for research use only.
