Stromelysin-1, more formally known as matrix metalloproteinase 3 (MMP3), is a zinc-dependent endopeptidase secreted by fibroblasts, chondrocytes, and synovial cells. It cleaves proteoglycans, fibronectin, laminin, and select collagen types, and contributes to extracellular matrix turnover, cartilage degradation, and inflammatory cascades. The assay is a solid-phase immunoassay run on a 96-assay microplate. Rabbit-specific capture antibodies are pre-coated onto the wells, and bound MMP3 is detected using an enzyme-linked antibody and a chromogenic substrate, generating an absorbance signal proportional to analyte concentration. Blood-derived fractions are typical inputs, and other physiological fluids may also be analyzed following the protocol guidance; appropriate dilution in the supplied assay buffer is recommended before loading.
