Matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2), also called Gelatinase A, is a zinc-dependent endopeptidase that degrades type IV collagen in basement membranes and drives extracellular matrix turnover during angiogenesis, wound repair, and inflammatory remodeling. The Assay Genie Rabbit MMP-2 ELISA Kit quantitatively measures this gelatinase in specimens from rabbit experimental models, supporting investigations of cardiovascular fibrosis, antigen-induced arthritis, intervertebral disc degeneration, periodontal disease, dermal wound healing, and tumor cell invasion.

This immunometric assay provides a pre-coated microplate, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, chromogenic substrate, wash buffer, and reference standard sufficient for 96 individual determinations. Prepared specimen is added to each well, the plate is washed, and absorbance is recorded after substrate development. MMP-2 concentrations in unknowns are interpolated against the supplied standard curve and reported in nanograms per milliliter. Reconstituted standards and detection antibody should be stored refrigerated at 4 degrees C, while working aliquots of biospecimens should be frozen at -20 degrees C to limit proteolytic degradation prior to processing.

All kit components are calibrated for the rabbit ortholog of MMP-2 and intended for research use only in in vitro testing. The protocol accommodates kinetic monitoring of gelatinase release at multiple experimental timepoints in longitudinal animal studies, and complements downstream gelatin zymography when qualitative distinction between pro-MMP-2 and active MMP-2 isoforms is required.
