Proteinase K, 4mL

A ready-to-use serine protease preparation from STEMCELL Technologies that exhibits broad cleavage activity, cutting peptide bonds adjacent to the carboxylic group in aliphatic and aromatic amino acids. It is used for removing nucleases from DNA and RNA samples and for terminating enzymatic reactions, and is supplied free of nuclease activity. The solution is stable at room temperature and active over a pH range of 4.3 - 12.0 in 0.5% SDS or 1% Triton® X-100. The recommended working concentration is 50 - 100 µg/mL.

Supplied at a concentration of 20 µg/µL, the formulation consists of 10 mM Tris-HCl (pH 7.5), 1 mM calcium chloride, and 50% glycerol. The enzyme is derived from Tritirachium album Limber. It should be stored at 15 - 25°C and remains stable until the expiry date (EXP) on the label. The product is a clear liquid with a pH of 7.2 and a flash point above 100 °C (>212 °F).

According to the safety data sheet, the mixture is classified as a respiratory sensitizer (Category 1) and may cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled. It can also cause mild skin irritation. Adequate ventilation and personal protective equipment are recommended during handling, and the user should refer to the safety data sheet for detailed hazard information.
