A tissue dissociation enzyme preparation from STEMCELL Technologies manufactured under animal component-free (ACF) conditions, Collagenase C is intended for research workflows that require consistent enzymatic breakdown of extracellular matrix proteins without exposure to animal-derived raw materials. Each 1 g bottle provides a lyophilized enzyme blend optimized for routine and high-demand digestions of mammalian connective tissue, including primary fibroblast isolation from skin, lung, and adipose biopsies, as well as dissociation of mouse or rat whole organs for downstream cell culture or flow cytometry analysis.

The product is formulated to deliver reliable collagenolytic activity lot-to-lot while supporting translational studies that need to minimize the risk of prion or viral contaminants from bovine or porcine sources. The powder is readily reconstituted in a calcium-containing buffer such as Hanks' Balanced Salt Solution to a working concentration of 1 to 5 mg/mL, then combined with Neutral Protease or trypsin-style reagents when gentler dissociation of sensitive cell types is required.

Researchers commonly titrate between 0.5 and 2 mg/mL depending on tissue density and target cell yield, with typical digestion times of 30 minutes to 2 hours at 37 °C. The 1 g bottle supports hundreds of digestion reactions for laboratories running high-throughput tissue processing. For long-term storage, keep the lyophilized material at -20 °C, protected from light and moisture, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles by aliquoting freshly prepared working solutions into single-use vials. Provided for research use only; not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
