Intestinal fatty acid binding protein (I-FABP, also called FABP2) leaks from compromised villus enterocytes within minutes of mucosal insult, making plasma and serum concentrations of this ~15 kDa cytosolic carrier a widely used early biomarker for gut barrier injury in swine research. The Porcine IFABP/FABP2 ELISA kit from Assay Genie quantifies the analyte in pig samples and supports translational studies of mesenteric ischemia–reperfusion damage, neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis, septic shock and endotoxemia protocols, post-surgical intestinal barrier breakdown, and preclinical evaluation of dietary, probiotic, or pharmacological interventions meant to preserve villus integrity.

The kit arrives with a precoated microplate, lyophilized recombinant porcine FABP2 calibrator, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin–HRP conjugate, wash concentrate, chromogenic substrate, and stop solution. All reagents are packaged in single-use vials sized for one full plate run with duplicated standards and unknowns. The assay is intended for research use only and accepts serum, citrated plasma, heparinized plasma, or clarified tissue homogenate prepared from jejunum or ileum biopsies.
