Description

From Assay Genie, this kit is a colorimetric sandwich ELISA for the quantitative detection of Haptoglobin (HP) in porcine samples, with research applications in immune response and inflammatory processes in pigs. It is reactive with pig (also listed under swine species reactivity) and is intended for research use only.

Compatible samples include serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, with specificity for natural and recombinant pig Haptoglobin. In reported linearity testing, serum recovered at 94-103%, 85-95%, 105-118% and 86-96% across 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 dilutions respectively; EDTA plasma at 86-96%, 103-114%, 110-120% and 108-117%; and heparin plasma at 104-114%, 105-116%, 90-103% and 106-115%. The kit shows a detection range of 15.6-1000ng/mL and a sensitivity of 5.7ng/mL, with absorbance read at 450 nm.

Haptoglobin is an acute-phase protein that binds free plasma hemoglobin to support hepatic recycling of heme iron and prevent kidney damage, and has also been described as having antioxidant and antibacterial activity. According to the manufacturer, the pig protein is a tetramer of two alpha and two beta chains (UniProt Q8SPS7; NCBI Gene ID 397061), is synonymously listed as Zonulin, is secreted, and sits within a cardiovascular research area. Most kit components are stored at -20°C with the wash buffer, substrate and stop solution stored at 4°C, and the listed international shipping condition is +4°C.
