Liver-type fatty acid binding protein, also known as L-FABP, is the protein product of the FABP1 gene. It is a 14 kDa cytosolic carrier highly expressed in hepatocytes and, at lower levels, in enterocytes, where it binds long-chain fatty acids, acyl-CoA esters, bile acids, and related hydrophobic ligands. L-FABP participates in intracellular lipid trafficking, metabolic channeling of fatty acids toward β-oxidation or esterification, and protection of cellular membranes from detergent-like lipotoxic effects. In swine research, circulating and hepatic FABP1 concentrations are studied as indicators of hepatocellular injury, intestinal epithelial damage, metabolic syndrome, dietary lipid challenge, and pharmacological hepatotoxicity.

The Assay Genie Porcine FABP1 ELISA Kit is a research-use-only enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay designed to quantify endogenous L-FABP in porcine research samples. Each kit is supplied as a complete reagent pack sufficient for 96 individual assay determinations and is intended for laboratory applications including hepatic biology research, metabolic disease modeling, gut barrier function studies, and veterinary biomedical investigation. The kit uses a colorimetric measurement approach, with the resulting signal quantified by absorbance on a standard microplate reader. Storage and handling recommendations provided in the product insert should be observed, including the storage of reconstituted components and precautions regarding repeated freeze-thaw cycles of working aliquots.
