Connexin 43 (CX43, encoded by the GJA1 gene) is the most widely expressed member of the connexin family, assembling into hexameric connexons that pair across adjacent cells to form gap junction channels for direct cytoplasmic exchange of ions, metabolites, and second messengers. This Assay Genie porcine-specific kit enables quantitative measurement of CX43 in cardiac, neural, epithelial, and tumor tissue research models, supporting studies of intercellular communication, electrical coupling, wound repair, and oncogenic transformation.
Each kit contains a pre-coated 96-well microplate, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, lyophilized protein standard, and all buffers required to complete the sandwich immunoassay. The protocol uses 50 uL of sample per well, runs in approximately 3 to 4 hours, and demonstrates no significant cross-reactivity with related connexin isoforms CX26, CX32, or CX40. The assay is validated for serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants. Reagents should be refrigerated at 2-8 degrees C and protected from light; reconstituted standard aliquots may be stored at -20 degrees C for extended use. For research use only.
