This Assay Genie immunoassay quantitatively measures porcine cluster of differentiation 14, a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored pattern recognition receptor that binds lipopolysaccharide in complex with LPS-binding protein. CD14 is expressed on monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils, while soluble CD14 shed from these cells circulates in blood and rises during systemic immune activation. It serves as a valuable biomarker for studying inflammation and innate immunity in pigs.

Veterinary researchers and comparative immunologists apply this kit to investigate swine infectious disease models, including experimental infections with African swine fever virus, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Salmonella species. Elevated CD14 concentrations have been documented during endotoxemia and acute-phase responses, so the assay supports tracking inflammatory kinetics in vaccine-challenge trials, antimicrobial intervention studies, and translational sepsis research that uses pigs as a large-animal model.

Each kit contains a pre-coated microplate, lyophilized standards, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, wash buffer, substrate solution, and assay diluent. A standard curve is generated from serial dilutions of the supplied reference standard. Specimens should be aliquoted upon collection; if not assayed immediately, samples can be refrigerated for short-term use or frozen at -20 °C for longer storage, with repeated freeze-thaw cycles avoided. Cell culture supernatants from porcine monocytes or alveolar macrophages, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and tissue homogenates can be analyzed alongside matched serum controls.

The strip-plate configuration provides flexibility for both small pilot studies and larger cohort analyses, with each kit supplied for the indicated number of determinations.
