Ochratoxin A is a nephrotoxic and carcinogenic mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus ochraceus, Aspergillus carbonarius, and Penicillium verrucosum that commonly contaminates cereals, dried fruits, coffee, wine, and poultry feed. IARC classifies OTA as a Group 2B possible human carcinogen, and its chlorinated dihydroisocoumarin structure makes it heat-stable and resistant to many common food-processing steps. This competitive binding immunoassay from Assay Genie delivers a working detection range of 0.4 to 40 ng/mL, enabling analytical laboratories to screen grain and feed extracts for OTA residues using a microplate workflow with minimal hands-on time and standard laboratory equipment. The kit supports routine monitoring of wheat, barley, corn, rye, and oat samples, as well as compound feed rations and silage, helping producers and quality managers verify compliance with European Commission maximum limits set at 5 ug/kg for raw cereals and lower thresholds for processed products. Reconstituted reagents and the coated microplate should be stored refrigerated at 4 degrees C and protected from light, and the kit is intended for research use only, not for diagnostic procedures.
