Description

From Assay Genie, this Sandwich ELISA kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of mouse Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor B (VEGFB) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The assay is reactive toward mouse samples and detects both natural and recombinant mouse VEGFB, also referred to by the synonyms VEGF-related factor (VRF), VEGF-B and Vrf. VEGFB is described as a key factor in the regulation of blood vessel growth and development, playing a vital role in angiogenesis and tissue repair, and its dysregulation has been implicated in cancer, cardiovascular disorders and ischemic injuries, making it a biomarker of research interest for those conditions.

Performance figures for the kit include a detection range of 15.6-1000 pg/mL and a sensitivity of 7.88 pg/mL. Intra-assay variation is given as an Intra CV of 6.2% and inter-assay variation as an Inter CV of 8.6%. Linearity has been evaluated across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16: serum (N=5) recovers at 95-105%, 86-95%, 96-104% and 101-113% respectively; EDTA plasma (N=5) at 111-121%, 85-96%, 108-117% and 106-118%; and heparin plasma (N=5) at 106-118%, 94-103%, 92-102% and 103-112%. Recovery is reported as an average of 80% in serum (range 80-86%) and 82% in plasma (range 80-88%).

VEGFB functions as a growth factor for endothelial cells: VEGF-B167 binds heparin and neuropilin-1, whereas binding of VEGF-B186 to neuropilin-1 is regulated by proteolysis. The protein is reported as required for normal adult heart function but not required for proper cardiovascular system development during development or for angiogenesis in adults. It is a secreted protein that remains associated with cells or to the extracellular matrix unless released by heparin, and forms a disulfide-linked homodimer that can also form a heterodimer with VEGF (UniProt P49766). For research use only.
