Description

A sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative determination of mouse Urea transporter 1 (SLC14A1), also known as Solute carrier family 14 member 1, UT-B, and Urea transporter, erythrocyte. The assay uses colorimetric detection and is reactive with mouse samples, including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, with specificity for natural and recombinant mouse Urea transporter 1.

According to the manufacturer, the kit provides a detection range of 0.156-10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.054 ng/mL. Reported linearity for serum samples (N=5) spans 92-103% at a 1:2 dilution, 107-117% at 1:4, 114-123% at 1:8, and 106-116% at 1:16. EDTA plasma shows 96-104%, 106-116%, 106-116%, and 100-112% across the same dilutions, while heparin plasma demonstrates 109-118%, 101-111%, 106-118%, and 108-118%. The kit is intended for research use only and is stored at -20°C with shipping at +4°C.

Urea transporter 1 functions as a specialized low-affinity urea channel that facilitates transmembrane urea transport down a concentration gradient, acting as a selectivity filter through which dehydrated urea passes. The conduction rate is increased by hypotonic stress, and the protein plays an important role in the kidney medulla collecting ducts, allowing equilibration between the lumen and interstitium to prevent water loss in concentrated urine. It also facilitates urea transport across erythrocyte membranes. The UniProt entry is Q8VHL0, with NCBI Gene ID 108052 and a molecular weight of 42,126 Da; the protein operates as a homotrimer, with each subunit containing a pore through which urea permeates.
