Undercarboxylated osteocalcin (ucOC) is a circulating biomarker widely used in metabolic and skeletal research. Osteocalcin, secreted by osteoblasts, requires vitamin K-dependent gamma-carboxylation to mature into its active hydroxyapatite-binding form; when vitamin K intake is insufficient or carboxylation is impaired, the undercarboxylated fraction rises in circulation and reflects both bone turnover dynamics and systemic vitamin K status. Researchers use this analyte to investigate osteoporosis models, glucose homeostasis, testosterone biosynthesis, and vascular calcification in mouse studies.
Each Assay Genie kit ships with a pre-coated microplate, detection antibody, standards, and substrate buffer sufficient for one full plate run. Sample handling guidance recommends collecting blood by cardiac puncture or retro-orbital bleed into anticoagulant tubes, separating plasma promptly, and storing aliquots frozen at -20 degrees C or colder to minimize freeze-thaw degradation. The assay is intended for research use only.
