Description

From Assay Genie, this Sandwich ELISA Kit is designed for the precise measurement of synaptophysin levels in mouse samples, offering high sensitivity and specificity for research applications within the neurosciences. The assay uses a colorimetric detection method, is reactive with mouse, and is intended for research use only.

Synaptophysin is a key neuronal protein involved in synaptic vesicle trafficking and synaptic plasticity, and changes in its levels have been linked to neurological disorders including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. The assay targets the protein also referred to as BM89 antigen or Major synaptic vesicle protein p38 (UniProt Q62277). Compatible sample types include serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates, and other biological fluids. The reported detection range is 0.78-50 ng/mL with a sensitivity of 0.417 ng/mL, and the kit has been validated for specificity against natural and recombinant mouse synaptophysin. According to the supplied UniProt annotation, synaptophysin is possibly involved in structural functions such as organising other membrane components or in targeting vesicles to the plasma membrane, and is involved in the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity; the protein is reported to form a homohexamer or homotetramer and to interact with SRCIN1.
