SerpinB5 is a serine (or cysteine) peptidase inhibitor belonging to the serpin family, Ov-serpin subfamily. It functions as a tumor suppressor, blocking the growth, invasion, and metastatic properties of mammary tumors. Unlike active serpins, it does not undergo the stressed (S) to relaxed (R) conformational transition and therefore exhibits no serine protease inhibitory activity. The protein is secreted to the extracellular space and interacts with IRF6.
