Reactivity is specific to mouse, and the assay detects natural and recombinant mouse Lcn2.

Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 15.6-1000pg/mL, a sensitivity of 7.9pg/mL, an intra-assay CV of 7.5% and an inter-assay CV of 9.5%. Recovery in serum averages 87% (range 81-93%), and recovery in plasma averages 89% (range 83-95%). Linearity has been assessed across 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 dilutions, with serum ranges of 103-115%, 102-113%, 104-114% and 94-104%; EDTA plasma ranges of 109-118%, 89-99%, 82-92% and 96-96%; and heparin plasma ranges of 112-112%, 90-98%, 99-109% and 101-111%.

Lcn2, also known by the synonyms Lipocalin-2, NGAL, Siderocalin LCN2, p25, 24p3, Oncogene 24p3 and SV-40-induced 24p3 protein, is an iron-trafficking protein involved in apoptosis, innate immunity and renal development. Elevated LCN2 levels have been associated with several diseases including inflammation, infection and kidney injury, making it a relevant biomarker within the cardiovascular research area.
