This quantitative immunoassay from Assay Genie is built to measure mouse Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule (NCAM), also recognized as CD56, a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that mediates homophilic cell-cell binding, neurite outgrowth, and synaptic plasticity in the developing and adult nervous system. Reagents are supplied as a complete kit configured for 96 determinations on a microplate, with matched capture antibody, biotinylated detection reagent, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, substrate, and calibrated standard sufficient for interpolation of unknowns from a standard curve. The workflow follows a sequential incubation protocol: diluted serum or plasma samples, or tissue-derived supernatant, are added to pre-coated wells, the biotinylated detection reagent is applied, the streptavidin-HRP step is introduced, and a colorimetric substrate is read at the appropriate wavelength on a standard plate reader. The kit is intended for research use only, and the reagents are shipped and stored refrigerated to preserve antibody activity through the stated shelf life. Investigators apply the assay to characterize NCAM/CD56 expression in mouse models of neuroinflammation, neurogenesis, neuronal regeneration, and tumor metastasis, where the molecule also serves as a surface marker of natural killer cell activity in immunological studies.
