Description

Designed for the quantitative measurement of natriuretic peptides B (NPPB) in mouse samples, this ELISA kit from Assay Genie accepts serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates, and other biological fluids. NPPB, also known as brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) or gamma-brain natriuretic peptide, is a cardiac hormone with central roles in cardiovascular homeostasis; elevated levels have been linked to heart failure, hypertension, and other cardiovascular disorders, supporting its value as a research biomarker in mouse models of cardiovascular disease.

Performance specifications include a detection range of 15.6-1000 pg/mL and a sensitivity of 7.88 pg/mL. Reported precision is an intra-assay CV of 6.8% and inter-assay CV of 9.3%. Linearity has been validated in serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma at serial dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, and 1:16 (N=5). Recovery averaged 96% for serum (range 90-102%) and 98% for plasma (range 92-104%). The assay is specific for natural and recombinant mouse NPPB.

Functionally, NPPB is described as a cardiac hormone that may act as a paracrine antifibrotic factor in the heart and supports cardiovascular homeostasis through natriuresis, diuresis, vasorelaxation, and inhibition of renin and aldosterone secretion. The peptide specifically binds and stimulates cGMP production via the NPR1 receptor and binds the clearance receptor NPR3. The protein is secreted and belongs to the natriuretic peptide family.
