MUC5B is a large gel-forming mucin secreted by submucosal glands of the conducting airways and by salivary tissue, and its quantification in mouse preclinical models underpins studies of mucociliary clearance, airway defense, and chronic lung disease. This Assay Genie immunoassay enables quantitative measurement of mouse MUC5B protein across tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants, and other biological specimens commonly prepared from rodent lung, trachea, and salivary tissue.

Researchers working on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, COPD models, cystic fibrosis airway models, allergic airway inflammation, and smoke- or pollutant-induced mucin hypersecretion rely on such measurements to monitor disease progression and pharmacological intervention in vivo. Saliva and oral-sample measurements additionally support oral biology and mucosal immunology research, while supernatant measurements enable in vitro work with primary airway epithelial cells or mucin-producing cell lines.

The kit ships as a complete package for colorimetric readout on a standard microplate reader, with reagents to generate a standard curve and protocol steps validated for mouse specimens. Each kit supports 96 assays per plate, accommodating duplicate or triplicate measurements across multiple experimental groups and time points from a single pack. Mouse-specific antibody pairs are matched to MUC5B epitopes that are not conserved in other rodent species or in human MUC5B, supporting selective detection in mouse-derived samples over closely related mucins such as MUC5AC.
