Lanosterol synthase is a monomeric enzyme that catalyzes the cyclization of (S)-2,3 oxidosqualene to lanosterol, a reaction that forms the sterol nucleus. Through the production of lanosterol, the enzyme may regulate lens protein aggregation and increase transparency. The protein is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane as a peripheral membrane protein, with a molecular weight of 83,141 Da, and is positioned within the cardiovascular research area.
