The assay detects natural and recombinant mouse Ireb2, an RNA-binding protein that binds to iron-responsive elements (IRES) located in the 5'-UTR of ferritin and delta aminolevulinic acid synthase mRNAs, and in the 3'-UTR of transferrin receptor mRNA. IREB2 is a key protein involved in iron homeostasis and regulation, and its dysregulation has been linked to anemia, neurodegenerative disorders and cancer, making it a valuable research biomarker. The protein is also known by the synonyms Iron regulatory protein 2, IRP2, IRE-BP 2 and Irp2. Quoted performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.156–10 ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.089 ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 8.5% and an inter-assay CV of 10.2%.
