Beta-glucuronidase activity is widely studied in mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (Sly syndrome), a rare lysosomal storage disorder caused by GUSB deficiency, and in intestinal microbial ecology, where bacterial and host enzyme activity modulate reactivation of drug-glucuronide conjugates in the gut.
