GDF2 is a secreted homodimer that acts as a potent circulating inhibitor of angiogenesis and may be involved in bone formation. It signals through the type I activin receptor ACVRL1, and signaling through SMAD1 in endothelial cells requires the TGF-beta coreceptor endoglin/ENG. The assay has a detection range of 0.625–40 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.327 ng/mL, targeting a protein of 47,703 Da (UniProt Q9WV56).
