Description

A Sandwich ELISA Kit from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative detection of Glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (GPI) in mouse samples. Intended for research use only, the kit is reactive with mouse serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.

Detection is performed colorimetrically, with a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 39.6pg/mL. Specificity has been established for natural and recombinant mouse GPI. As a dimeric enzyme central to glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, GPI catalyses the reversible isomerisation of glucose-6-phosphate and fructose-6-phosphate, making the kit suitable for research in metabolism and related areas including diabetes and autoimmune disease.

Beyond its glycolytic role, mammalian GPI can function extracellularly as a tumor-secreted cytokine and angiogenic factor (autocrine motility factor, AMF) that stimulates endothelial cell motility, and as a neurotrophic factor (neuroleukin) for spinal and sensory neurons. The target protein is encoded by the Gpi1 gene (UniProt P06745), has a molecular weight of 62,767 Da, and is also known by the synonyms Autocrine motility factor, Neuroleukin, Phosphoglucose isomerase, Phosphohexose isomerase, AMF, NLK, PGI, PHI and GPI. The catalytically active form is a homodimer while the secreted form is a monomer, and the protein localises to the cytoplasm and, when secreted, to the extracellular environment.
