Description

This colorimetric ELISA kit from Assay Genie is reactive for mouse and is intended for the quantitative measurement of mouse Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide (GIP), a hormone of the glucagon superfamily that functions as a potent stimulator of insulin secretion and a relatively poor inhibitor of gastric acid secretion. The assay is for research use only and is compatible with mouse samples including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.

Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.156–10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.08 ng/mL. Intra-assay precision is 6.8% CV and inter-assay precision is 8.9% CV. Linearity for serum (N=5) spans 84–113%, for EDTA plasma (N=5) 81–120%, and for heparin plasma (N=5) 102–124% across serial dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16. Average recovery is 91% (range 85–97%) for serum and 93% (range 87–99%) for plasma. The kit is reported to be specific for natural and recombinant mouse GIP, the product of the Gip gene (UniProt P48756).

GIP is associated with Signal Transduction research and is localised to the secreted cellular compartment. It has been linked to regulation of glucose metabolism, lipid handling and body weight, and to biological processes including endocrine pancreas development, memory and synaptic transmission. Transgenic mice overexpressing the protein show increased markers of bone formation, decreased markers of bone resorption and an increase in bone mass. The kit supports investigations into metabolic disorders such as diabetes and obesity.
