Mouse Galectin-8 (Lgals8) ELISA Kit

A sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie for the quantitative detection of mouse Galectin-8 (LGALS8), a beta-galactoside-binding lectin involved in cell adhesion, migration and apoptosis. Dysregulation of Galectin-8 has been linked to cancer, inflammatory disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, supporting its use as a research biomarker. The assay is validated for serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, and specifically recognises natural and recombinant mouse Galectin-8. Galectin-8 levels are read colorimetrically across a detection range of 0.78-50ng/mL, with a reported sensitivity of 0.407ng/mL. Precision data indicate an intra-assay CV of 3.8% and an inter-assay CV of 6.9%. Linearity across dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16 has been demonstrated in serum (94-104% to 87-96%), EDTA plasma (89-99% to 95-104%) and heparin plasma (105-117% to 107-117%). Recovery averages 97% (range 91-103%) in serum and 99% (range 93-105%) in plasma.

Functionally, Galectin-8 acts as a sensor of membrane damage during infection and restricts the proliferation of invading pathogens, including S. typhimurium and Picornaviridae viruses, by initiating autophagy via interaction with CALCOCO2/NDP52. It has a marked preference for 3'-O-sialylated and 3'-O-sulfated glycans and is described as a homodimer localised to the cytoplasm, cytosol and cytoplasmic vesicles.
