This immunoassay from Assay Genie enables quantitative measurement of Neuron-Specific Enolase (NSE; also known as gamma-enolase or by the gene symbol ENO2) in mouse-derived specimens, supporting laboratory programmes in neurobiology, neuro-oncology, and biomarker discovery. NSE is a glycolytic isoenzyme concentrated in central and peripheral neurons as well as in cells of neuroendocrine origin, and its concentration in blood or tissue acts as a sensitive indicator of neuronal injury, neurodegeneration, or neuroendocrine tumour burden in murine disease models.

Each kit is supplied in a 96 assays format with the pre-coated plate, standards, antibodies, and detection reagents needed to produce a full standard curve alongside unknown samples. The assay has been validated for serum samples, plasma samples, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants collected from mouse models, enabling side-by-side comparison of NSE levels between whole-animal studies and cell-based assays on a single plate.

Real-world research applications include quantifying NSE release after experimental traumatic brain injury, ischemic stroke, or excitotoxic insult; tracking growth of small-cell lung carcinoma or neuroblastoma xenografts; assessing neurotoxicity of candidate compounds; and profiling neuroinflammation in transgenic and knockout mouse lines. The colourimetric end-point is read on a standard microplate reader, the kit is intended for research use only, and the assay fits routine in vitro and in vivo laboratory workflows.
