Cytochrome P450 1A2 is the principal hepatic enzyme responsible for the metabolic clearance of caffeine, theophylline, clozapine, and many prescription drugs. In mouse models, CYP1A2 expression is strongly induced by aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonists such as TCDD and benzo[a]pyrene, making it a routine biomarker in pharmacology, toxicology, and ADME research.
