Alpha-2-antiplasmin is a serine protease inhibitor that regulates blood clotting and fibrinolysis, with major targets including plasmin and trypsin, and additional inactivation of matriptase-3/TMPRSS7 and chymotrypsin. Defects in SERPINF2 are the cause of alpha-2-plasmin inhibitor deficiency (APLID), an autosomal recessive disorder resulting in severe hemorrhagic diathesis, and the protein is recognised as a biomarker for studying clotting disorders, liver disease, and related conditions.
