The assay has a detection range of 0.156-10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.086 ng/mL, with intra-assay CV of 7.0% and inter-assay CV of 9.2%. Specificity is reported for natural and recombinant mouse Alpha-1A adrenergic receptor. Linearity at dilutions 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 was measured as 98-107%, 100-110%, 103-115% and 91-101% in serum (N=5); 107-116%, 117-117%, 92-101% and 106-117% in EDTA plasma (N=5); and 106-116%, 106-118%, 101-110% and 106-117% in heparin plasma (N=5). Recovery averages 106% in serum (range 100-112%) and 108% in plasma (range 102-114%).

The target protein, alpha-1A adrenergic receptor, is a G protein-coupled receptor that signals through G(q) and G(11) proteins to activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.
