Spike-and-recovery testing across matrices yielded the following results: serum (n=5) recovery range 95–104% with an average of 100%; EDTA plasma (n=5) 88–104% averaging 97%; and UFH plasma (n=5) 89–100% averaging 95%. ABCB11 is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, MDR/TAP subfamily, involved in the ATP-dependent secretion of bile salts into the canaliculus of hepatocytes. Defects in ABCB11 are linked to progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 2 (PFIC2) and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis type 2 (BRIC2). Alternative names include Abcb11, Bsep, Spgp, ATP-binding cassette sub-family B member 11, and Sister of P-glycoprotein (UniProt: Q9QY30).
