Description

From Assay Genie, this Sandwich ELISA kit is designed for the quantitative determination of mouse 3-oxo-5-alpha-steroid 4-dehydrogenase 1 (Srd5a1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The kit uses a colorimetric detection method and reacts specifically with natural and recombinant mouse 3-oxo-5-alpha-steroid 4-dehydrogenase 1. SRD5A1 is an enzyme that converts testosterone into 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone, and progesterone or corticosterone into their corresponding 5-alpha-3-oxosteroids, playing a central role in sexual differentiation and androgen physiology.

The kit's quoted detection range is 0.156-10ng/ml, with a sensitivity of 0.079ng/mL. Reported precision values are an intra-assay CV of 3.5% and an inter-assay CV of 8.4%. Linearity for serum (N=5) is 87-100%, 87-96%, 109-119% and 108-118% at 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 dilutions respectively; EDTA plasma (N=5) values are 102-112%, 105-117%, 109-118% and 105-115%; and Heparin plasma (N=5) values are 99-108%, 106-116%, 104-114% and 82-92%. Recovery ranges from 89-101% in serum (average 95%) and 91-103% in plasma (average 97%).

Dysregulation of SRD5A1 activity has been linked to prostate cancer and male pattern baldness, making it a useful biomarker for these conditions. The UniProt accession is Q68FF9, NCBI Gene ID 78925, NCBI accession NP_780492.2, and the protein's molecular weight is 29,344 Da. The protein localises to the microsome membrane and endoplasmic reticulum membrane as a multi-pass membrane protein. The kit is for research use only and falls within the Neurosciences research area. Synonyms include SR type 1, Steroid 5-alpha-reductase 1 and S5AR 1.
