Description

This cell-based ELISA kit from Assay Genie is designed for the quantitative detection of Keratin 17 levels in cell cultures, offering a lysate-free, high-throughput workflow for skin biology and disease research. The assay uses an indirect colorimetric format read at 450 nm, in which Keratin 17 is captured by specific primary antibodies and detected using HRP-conjugated secondary antibodies. A monoclonal antibody specific for human GAPDH is included as an internal positive control, and Crystal Violet whole-cell staining can be used to normalize absorbance values to cell density.

The kit reacts with Human, Mouse and Rat samples and is suitable for adherent cells, with a dynamic range of > 5000 Cells. The plates should be stored at 4°C for 6 Months. Researchers can use it to profile Keratin 17 protein expression in cultured cells and to screen the effects of treatments, inhibitors (such as siRNA or chemicals) or activators on the target.

Keratin 17 is a type I intermediate filament protein with a reported molecular weight of 48,106 Da (gene symbol KRT17, Gene ID 3872, UniProt Q04695). It is involved in the formation and maintenance of skin appendages and the orientation of hair, and is required for the persistence of the anagen growth state. Its expression is upregulated in skin disorders including psoriasis, eczema and skin cancer, making it a useful biomarker for studying these conditions.
