WBSCR17 is a polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase that catalyzes the transfer of N-acetylgalactosamine to serine and threonine residues, initiating mucin-type O-glycosylation. The corresponding gene maps to chromosome 7q11.23 within the Williams-Beuren syndrome critical region, making this protein a target of interest for neurodevelopmental, glycosylation, and metabolic research studies.
