A quantitative immunoassay from Assay Genie measures human WAP Four Disulfide Core Domain Protein 2, commonly referred to as WFDC2 or HE4, a small secreted glycoprotein most intensively studied as a serological biomarker for epithelial ovarian carcinoma. The kit supplies a complete colorimetric workflow for research laboratories tracking circulating HE4 levels in investigations of gynecologic malignancy, monitoring of disease recurrence, or risk stratification of pelvic masses alongside established markers such as CA-125.

Configured for 96 tests per kit, the assay enables in vitro quantification of WFDC2 across human serum specimens, plasma specimens, saliva samples, and tissue homogenates using a standard microplate reader. The plate-based protocol uses a matched antibody pair immobilized on the wells to capture WFDC2 from research samples, with detection enabled by a chromogenic substrate that produces a measurable absorbance signal proportional to antigen concentration. Researchers in gynecologic oncology, reproductive biology, and tumor biomarker discovery apply the kit to profile WFDC2 expression across case-control cohorts and longitudinal sample sets.

WFDC2 belongs to the whey acidic protein family and carries the four-disulfide core domain that gives the protein its name. Although originally cloned from human epididymal tissue, HE4 is overexpressed in serous and endometrioid ovarian tumors and has been explored as a marker in lung adenocarcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, and endometrial carcinoma. This expression pattern supports translational research extending beyond ovarian cancer into broader epithelial tumor biology.

Reagents are supplied ready to use and should be refrigerated upon arrival. Once equilibrated to room temperature, all components perform consistently across standard ELISA workflows. The kit is intended for research use only and supports laboratory investigations rather than clinical diagnostic decision-making.
