VPS54 (Vacuolar Protein Sorting 54 Homolog) is an approximately 110 kDa subunit of the Golgi-associated retrograde protein (GARP) tethering complex, which anchors endosome-derived vesicles at the trans-Golgi network during retrograde membrane trafficking. Loss-of-function mutations in VPS54 underlie the wobbler mouse phenotype of progressive motor neuron degeneration, so quantitative measurement of VPS54 protein supports research into neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, GARP complex assembly, and intracellular vesicle sorting pathways in eukaryotic cells.
