UBAP1 (Ubiquitin-Associated Protein 1) is a component of the ESCRT-I complex that mediates endosomal sorting and multivesicular body formation. Pathogenic mutations in UBAP1 cause hereditary spastic paraplegia type 80 (SPG80), a neurodegenerative condition presenting with progressive lower-limb spasticity and pyramidal signs. The protein is also investigated in oncology, where altered expression has been observed in tumor tissue specimens and implicated in proteasome pathway dysregulation.
