Manufacturer-reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.78-50ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.32ng/mL. Intra-assay CV is 5.1% and inter-assay CV is 9.8%. Dilutional linearity in serum spans 93-105% at 1:2 to 96-106% at 1:16, with comparable ranges reported for EDTA and heparin plasma samples across 1:2 to 1:16 dilutions. Mean recovery is 92% for serum (range 86-98%) and 94% for plasma (range 88-100%).

Tyrosinase (UniProt P14679) is a copper-containing oxidase that catalyses the rate-limiting conversion of tyrosine to DOPA, DOPA to DOPA-quinone and possibly 5,6-dihydroxyindole to indole-5,6 quinone, supporting melanin biosynthesis. The protein localises to the melanosome membrane as a single-pass type I membrane protein, and expression has been reported to increase after UVB irradiation. Two human isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
