DIO1 is a key enzyme involved in the activation and deactivation of thyroid hormones, playing a crucial role in regulating metabolism, energy balance, and overall physiological functions. Dysregulation of DIO1 activity has been linked to thyroid disorders, metabolic syndromes, and other health conditions, making it a valuable biomarker for studying these diseases and exploring potential treatment strategies. The enzyme is responsible for the deiodination of T4 (3,5,3',5'-tetraiodothyronine) into T3 (3,5,3'-triiodothyronine) and of T3 into T2 (3,3'-diiodothyronine), providing a source of plasma T3 by deiodination of T4 in peripheral tissues such as liver and kidney.

Performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.312-20ng/mL, sensitivity of 0.15ng/mL, intra-assay CV of 6.6%, and inter-assay CV of 9.2%.
