This sandwich immunoassay from Assay Genie quantitatively measures human transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, in serum, plasma, and related biological fluids. TTR is a 55 kDa homotetrameric protein synthesized primarily by the liver and choroid plexus that carries thyroxine and retinol-binding protein in circulation and cerebrospinal fluid, supporting research into thyroid hormone transport, vitamin A homeostasis, and hepatic function.

Because circulating TTR declines during malnutrition and behaves as a negative acute-phase reactant, researchers use this kit to study nutritional status, systemic inflammation, and postsurgical recovery. The assay also supports investigation of transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR), including hereditary variants linked to familial amyloid polyneuropathy and cardiomyopathy, as well as wild-type senile systemic amyloidosis in aging populations.

The colorimetric microplate format uses a 96-well plate pre-coated with capture antibody, together with standards and detection reagents for curve-based quantification. After incubation with biotinylated detection antibody and streptavidin-HRP, substrate is added and absorbance is read at the appropriate wavelength to interpolate TTR concentrations from the standard curve.

Typical intra-assay and inter-assay precision falls below 10% CV, with minimal cross-reactivity to related serum proteins. For reliable results, store the kit refrigerated at 2–8 °C, avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and equilibrate reagents to room temperature before running the assay. This product is intended for research use only and is not validated for clinical diagnostics.
