Cold sensation and menthol perception depend on TRPM8, an ion channel formally known as Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8. This cation channel is activated by temperatures below approximately 25 °C and by cooling compounds including menthol and eucalyptol. Beyond its canonical role in thermoreceptive neurons, TRPM8 is expressed in several non-neuronal tissues and has been investigated in the context of prostate and other epithelial cancers, where its overexpression has been linked to tumor cell proliferation and survival signaling.

The Human TRPM8 ELISA kit from Assay Genie is an in vitro immunoassay tool for quantifying this channel in human-derived specimens. The microplate-based format uses pre-coated capture antibodies specific to TRPM8, paired with a biotinylated detection antibody and a streptavidin-HRP conjugate. The chromogenic readout is measurable on a standard plate reader, and the included reagents are calibrated to support a full microplate batch. All components are supplied as a ready-to-use kit, with standards, controls, wash buffer, and substrate solution provided for laboratory workflows.

This product is intended for research use only, supporting investigations into cold sensation, pain pathways, and TRP channel pharmacology, as well as studies exploring TRPM8 as a candidate biomarker in oncology and metabolic disease research.
