Troponin T forms part of the troponin complex on the thin filament of cardiac muscle alongside troponin C and troponin I, where it anchors the complex to tropomyosin and regulates calcium-dependent contraction. Release of TNNT2 into the bloodstream is a recognized marker of cardiomyocyte damage, making it one of the most studied biomarkers in acute coronary syndrome research.
