The 18 kDa Translocator Protein (TSPO), previously known as the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor, is a mitochondrial outer membrane protein central to cholesterol transport, neuroinflammation, and steroidogenesis research. This quantitative in vitro immunoassay kit from Assay Genie is configured to measure human TSPO across samples such as tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants. In neuroscience workflows the protein functions as a marker of microglial activation in neurodegenerative and psychiatric disease models, and researchers also apply it to studies of mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammatory signaling. The kit follows standard ELISA principles with a colorimetric read-out, integrating into existing plate-based workflows with no specialized equipment beyond a microplate reader. It is supplied for research use only and supports translational investigations linking TSPO expression to glial biology, neuroimmune response, and cellular stress pathways.
