SOX18 is a nuclear DNA-binding transcription factor of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family that binds the consensus sequence 5'-AACAAAG-3' and trans-activates transcription. It participates in embryonic development, vasculogenesis, angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, hair cycling, and heart development. Dysregulation of SOX18 has been linked to cardiovascular disorders and certain cancers, making it a biomarker of research interest.
