TFAP2B is a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor of the AP-2 family that regulates gene expression by binding to the consensus sequence 5'-GCCNNNGGC-3'. AP-2 factors activate genes involved in proper eye, face, body wall, limb and neural tube development, and AP-2-beta is required for normal face and limb development and for proper terminal differentiation and function of renal tubular epithelia.
