Description

A high-quality sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie designed for the accurate detection of human synaptophysin (SYP) levels in biological samples. Synaptophysin is a key synaptic vesicle protein involved in neurotransmitter release and synaptic plasticity, with dysregulation implicated in neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia, underscoring its importance as a biomarker for studying these conditions. The kit is intended for research use only and supports neuroscience and neurobiology studies.

Validated sample types include human serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids, with reactivity specific to natural and recombinant human synaptophysin. Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.312-20ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.15ng/mL. Intra-assay CV is 4.6% and inter-assay CV is 9.4%. Linearity ranges from 83-91% to 82-93% for serum across 1:2 to 1:16 dilutions, 88-97% to 107-116% for EDTA plasma, and 95-105% to 84-94% for heparin plasma. Average recovery is 115% for serum (range 109-120%) and 117% for plasma (range 111-120%).

The UniProt reference is P08247. Synaptophysin is described as possibly involved in structural functions of membrane components or in targeting vesicles to the plasma membrane, and in the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity. The kit provides reliable and reproducible quantification of SYP levels, aiding understanding of synaptic dysfunction mechanisms and potential therapeutic development.
