SURF2 (Surfeit 2) belongs to the mammalian surfeit locus, a tightly clustered group of housekeeping genes (SURF1–SURF6) whose transcripts overlap on the same genomic strand. The encoded protein has been studied in the context of ribosome biogenesis and RNA polymerase I–associated transcriptional regulation, although its precise molecular function is still being characterized. Quantitative measurement of SURF2 protein supports investigations of nucleolar function, ribosomal RNA processing, and tumor biology research.
