Sulfotransferase 1A1 is a cytosolic enzyme (UniProt P50225) that utilises 3'-phospho-5'-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS) as a sulfonate donor to catalyse the sulfate conjugation of catecholamines, phenolic drugs, and neurotransmitters. It also exhibits estrogen sulfotransferase activity, contributes to the sulfonation and activation of minoxidil, and mediates the metabolic activation of carcinogenic N-hydroxyarylamines to DNA-binding products. Dysregulation of SULT1A1 has been linked to cancer, drug metabolism, and hormone regulation.

The assay uses a colorimetric sandwich ELISA format with reactivity specific to human samples. Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.156–10 ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.056 ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 6.3%, and an inter-assay CV of 9.8%.
