Located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, sulfite oxidase (SUOX) is a molybdenum cofactor-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the terminal reaction converting sulfite to sulfate during catabolism of cysteine and methionine. Defects in this enzyme cause isolated sulfite oxidase deficiency, a rare neurometabolic disorder characterized by severe encephalopathy and early developmental delay. The Assay Genie kit for human SUOX supports quantitative research into enzyme levels across metabolic, neurological, and hepatic investigations.

Configured for 96 determinations per plate, this research-use-only kit is validated for use with tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants. Researchers studying molybdenum cofactor deficiency, drug-induced sulfite accumulation, or mitochondrial dysfunction can apply the kit to patient-derived cells, biopsy material, and model systems. The assay also supports studies of oxidative stress responses and xenobiotic metabolism in hepatic and neuronal contexts.

Kit components include a pre-coated microplate, assay diluent, detection reagents, standards, and substrate solution. Unopened components should be refrigerated; reconstituted working standards should be kept refrigerated and protected from light between uses. The included insert provides detailed standard preparation, washing, and detection protocols. Researchers are advised to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of reagents and to allow all components to equilibrate to room temperature before beginning the assay.
